Information & Cybersecurity
The rise of new technologies – especially artificial intelligence – presents journalists, governments and the public with opportunities to use technology in new ways. With these opportunities come ethical and legal challenges for publishers as well as new threats. Journalists and news publishers are high-profile targets for hackers and spyware, compromising the safety of their information as well as the safety of their sources. It is critical that societies develop clear, forward-thinking standards in both legislative and organizational policy to enable the benefits and manage the potential harms of these technologies. We must also work to strengthen cybersecurity for journalists in ways that protect both their safety and their independence.
