Kayla Goodson is the Policy Research and Communications Lead at the Center for News, Technology, and Innovation. Most recently, she was a digital democracy specialist at USAID, where she worked to build resilient and rights-respecting technology and information ecosystems in global majority countries around the world. Prior to that, she ran communications at the Alliance for Securing Democracy at the German Marshall Fund of the United States and covered local government for The Salt Lake Tribune. She is passionate about using storytelling to bring people together and strengthen democracy.


Kayla received her master’s degree in international peace and security with distinction from the Department of War Studies at King’s College London, where her research focused on the kinetic impacts of social media narratives and disinformation. She holds a bachelor’s degree in news media and French from Brigham Young University. She is a current member of the Council on Foreign Relations’ young professionals cohort and has received awards for her reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists.
