Center for News, Technology & Innovation Launches in New York City

The Center for News, Technology & Innovation (CNTI) was officially unveiled on September 6, 2023, amidst the United Nations General Assembly, in a prestigious event held at the Japan Society in New York City.

The Center for News, Technology & Innovation (CNTI) made its grand debut on September 6, 2023, during the United Nations General Assembly at an event at the Japan Society in New York City. The event brought together a diverse crowd of journalism and technology leaders – both nationally and internationally – to celebrate CNTI’s launch.

Many of CNTI’s board and advisory group members were on hand to celebrate the event and introduce the organization more broadly to the journalism and technology communities.

One of the highlights of the evening was the speech delivered by Melissa Fleming, the Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications at the United Nations. Her words resonated deeply, emphasizing the critical role that CNTI will play in shaping the future of news, technology and their intersection globally.

The event also featured insightful remarks from CNTI’s Executive Director Amy Mitchell and Executive Chair Craig Forman and a video featuring CNTI’s board members. Both leaders spoke passionately about CNTI’s commitment to advancing a more informed and responsible media and technology ecosystem through independent research and insightful convenings.

During the event, CNTI launched its new website — cntitransfer.wpenginepowered.com — as well as eight issue primers that delve into crucial topics such as AI and journalism, disinformation and copyright reform. The primers represent the heart of what CNTI does: fostering a deeper understanding of the complex issues at the intersection of technology and journalism globally.
